We are always getting new books so visit the library often!Plymouth Library is staffed by a professional librarian and a number of dedicated volunteers. Our librarian, Suzanne Sanderson, received her Masters Degree in Library Science from the University of Washington. She spent nine years working as a school librarian in a private kindergarten through eighth grade school. She has worked as a substitute reference librarian for the King County Library System and as a Library Assistant with Los Angeles Public Libraries.

With the Librarian, the Library Committee establishes policies and procedures, manages the budget, and staffs the library on Sundays. The Library Committee is made up of 8 to 10 members of Plymouth Church who are dedicated to promoting and supporting the Library.

This year in the library, we will be exploring the bible.  Starting in September of 2009, there will be a display of books on the history of the bible such as Karen Armstrong's The Bible: A Biography.  Later, we'll be featuring books to help you understand the bible: commentaries, concordances, atlases, etc.  You will get an opportunity to look at many different versions of the bible. Two of our newest ones are The Green Bible and The People's Bible.  Bible stories have been retold in plays, poetry, choral music, novels, and picture books as well as being portrayed through paintings and sculpture.  Throughout the year, we will feature different stories.  Some of the books you will see are The Dreamer, a picture book by Cynthia Rylant (the creation story); Not the End of the World by the wonderful storyteller, Geraldine McCaughrean (Noah); a contemporary version of the story of Abraham and Ishmael: Dark Sons by Nikki Grimes; Lion's Honey, a new novel about Samson; and JB: A Play in Verse by Archibald MacLeish (Job).  Look at the bulletin board in the library for more reading suggestions and bible facts and trivia.

If you're looking for a concise version of the bible, here it is - in fifty words - from Summon's Christian Miscellany: An Amusingly Informative Collection of Unexpected Facts, Curiosities, and Trivia by Parminder Summon:

God made, Adam bit,Noah arked,Abraham split, Joseph ruled, Jacob fooled, bush talked, Moses balked; Pharaoh plagued, people walked. Sea divided, tablets guided, promised land. Saul freaked, David peeked, prophets warned, Jesus born. God walked, love talked, anger crucified, hope died. Love rose, Spirit flamed, word spread, God remained.
